Downtown Toledo has recently been revitalized with the addition of the new Huntington Center Arena, home to the Toledo Walleye hockey team and host of many concerts and events. Next door to the arena is beautiful Fifth Third Field, where fans come to cheer on the world-famous Mudhens. Surrounding the arena and baseball stadium are a variety of locally owned pubs, pizzerias and restaurants, including Tony Packo’s Café, a haven for chili-dog lovers. Also Downtown is Imagination Station, where children and adults can enjoy a day exploring science through fun, interactive exhibits along the banks of the Maumee River.
In Toledo’s “Old West End”, visitors will find the gorgeous old mansions of Toledo’s golden age and the Toledo Museum of Art. The museum houses art ranging from ancient Greece and Rome, to the Renaissance era, up through today’s distinguished modern art. There is also the Glass Pavilion, a building composed entirely of glass, on the museum’s grounds, which awes visitors with its curved glass walls and dazzling beauty.
The Toledo Zoo is the crown jewel in Toledo’s metro park system. At the zoo, you will be greeted by: polar bears, African savanna animals, giant monkeys, and many other wild creatures. Other parks in Toledo include the Toledo Botanical Gardens and the Towpath Trail, which runs along what remains of the Miami and Erie Canal. Visitors can also find peace and photo opportunities at the Butterfly House of Whitehouse, just a short drive outside of Toledo. The Toledo Farmer’s Market is a great place to find delicious and eccentric gifts and no trip to Toledo would be complete without taking a ride in an old steam engine on the Toledo, Lake Erie and Western Railway.
